Urban Ecology

We have a designed 10,000 square foot native plant meadow on campus as part of our Sustainability Labs. This “pocket prairie” allows us to study prairie ecology within an urban settings. Current research questions involve studying the plant and animal dynamics in urban prairies, changes in the soil bacteria and fungi, and how urban prairies such as this can contribute to ecosystem functions.
